What happens if I don’t improve my placement?
If you don't improve your placement the first time you reassess, no problem! It's relatively easy to make rapid progress when reviewing material you've learned before, but mastering new topics—or topics you've seen but never felt entirely comfortable with—takes time and persistence.
Could distractions or stress be keeping you from performing at your best? Reread Set the Stage for Success and The ALEKS Assessment Commandments, and look for changes you could make in your study environment to help you focus and boost your confidence.
If you're making steady progress in your Learning Module, continuing in your Module and reassessing again could be a good strategy. You can reassess a total of four times.
Reassessment isn't mandatory, although it's strongly encouraged. If you've reached a plateau and don't expect to make further progress in your Learning Module, it's fine to stay with your current placement tier.
Students who remain in the 100 or 200 MP tier can take a college course to improve their algebra skills and become eligible to enroll in more advanced courses.
